Show /Hide Details
Percentages are used to express how large and small of one quantity is relative to another quantity. Usually the first quantity represents a part of, or change in the second quantity that is greater than zero.
Although percentages are usually used to express number between zero and on and any dimensionless proportionality can be expressed as a percentage.
Percent means "per hundred", so the quantity should always divided by 100. For example, 75% is ^{75}/100 equals to 0.75; 100% is ^{100}/100 equals to one; 200% is ^{200}/100 equals to two.
The word "Percent" comes from the Latin "Per Centum". The Latin word "Centum" means 100, for example a Century is 100 years.
